Eight Injured at Dangerous Intersection
(ABC 6 NEWS) It's an intersection that has seen many crashes and several fatalities over the years. That intersection is Highway 14 and County Road 42 in Eyota.
Friday night, eight people, five of them children, were injured in a two-vehicle crash and a total of 10 people were involved.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, none were life-threatening.
The injured were transported by Mayo One and ambulance to Saint Marys Hospital.
Emergency crews from Eyota, St. Charles and Dover responded.
The intersection where the crash occurred has been the scene of numerous accidents involving serious injury and death.
One person from Rochester died in a crash at the intersection back on April 4th of this year.
"You see a lot of them all the time and you also see there could have been an accident happening but thankfully somebody swerved or something and just didn't get hit, but you know people are always honking at each other. So I guess I don't really know but something needs to done about it," said Eyota resident Jesse Hebig.
Area officials have been looking for quick fixes to make that intersection safer.
They are hoping to make changes that would include the installation of rumble strips, LED stop signs, and updated road markings by the end of the year.
Longer term plans include a round about. MnDOT says this could take three to four years.
