Another Big Cooldown Coming

Okay, so it wasn't really two different Augusts but it sure did feel like it!  The beginning of August was marred (or blessed, depending on your view) with a very un-summer-like pattern.  It was a pattern that kept the door open for cooler air from Canada to move in.  But a shift, built in big heat beginning August 19th bringing the 80s back into play.  Another surge of warmth brought the 90s and the moisture the last few days.

A eerily similar pattern to what was observed to start the month, looks to return to start September.  After three more days of hot conditions, the jet stream will go from a big ridge of high pressure, thrusting the jet stream north into Canada...

... to a big trough developing over the Great Lakes, allowing the jet stream to bring in the cooler air.

The 6-10 Day Temperature Outlook released by the Climate Prediction Center shows the effects of this pattern shift, much cooler temperatures developing over the Great Lakes states and areas east.

Why is it just "Neutral" for us?  There are some signs this big cool down won't last as long as it's predecessor, with warmer temps possible by Thursday next week, the later end of the range in this map.
