Manning Sentenced to 35 Years in WikiLeaks Case
FORT MEADE, Md. (AP) - One of Bradley Manning's supporters says he's "shocked" that a military judge has sentenced Manning to 35 years in prison, for giving hundreds of thousands of secret military and diplomatic documents to WikiLeaks.
Manning himself showed no reaction when the judge announced the punishment without explanation during a brief hearing today.
Manning will get credit for the more than three years he has been held, but he will have to serve at least one third of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
In addition to the prison term, his rank was demoted to private, he was dishonorably discharged and he forfeited his pay.
