UPDATE: Massive House Fire Near Northwood

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Northwood, Iowa fire officials tell ABC 6 that the  fire started shortly before nine Thursday night in the basement.

The owners of the home, Menno and Miriam Borntreger, who live in an Amish community, had no phone service.  It took the homeowners 40 minutes to make the 911 call as they had to run to a near by home.

Fire crews then arrived within 10 minutes; by then the home was fully engulfed and a total loss.

It took fire crews almost five hours to put the blaze out.

Seven family members lived in the home.  They all got out with no injuries.

A state fire marshal is on the scene to determine a cause.

We have a crew on the scene.

We'll have more for you tonight at Five and Six.
