Honoring Good Friday
(ABC 6 News) -- There were a number of events in our area honoring Good Friday. The day Christian's world-wide remember the day Jesus Christ was crucified.
"There's a couple hundred people here to walk from here to St John's and stop at some stations as a public gesture to say we believe in Jesus Christ," said Father Mahon with the Church of St. John the Evangelist.
It's a tradition we saw in Rochester and in Austin in honor of Good Friday. Both groups walked two-in-two, following the cross to remember Christ's walk to the Calvary. "Christ gave us a purpose to our suffering a purpose to our sacrifice," sad father Mahon.
The same reason why many gathered at the Salvation Army in Rochester. "I like to come to the service because it’s a good reminder of what Jesus did dying on the cross for me," said church goer Virginia Chau.
"Some folks from Mankato, and folks from Austin came in. Just a great service, we have probably about 150 people here," said Major James Frye with the Salvation Army.
First they gathered for mass. "We talked about being a servant to Christ and we talked about when Jesus washed the disciples feet," said Mahon.
Then they shared dinner together to celebrate what Christ gave them. "It was because of Jesus that we're able to celebrate this and have life, and have life more abundantly," said Maj. Frye.
Good Friday is the beginning of Easter weekend, followed by tomorrow's Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday services.
