Alleged Dine & Dash Leads To More Serious Charges
(ABC 6 News) - A reported dine-and-dash has led to more serious charges against an Austin woman.
Police were called to the Applebee’s Restaurant in Austin around 10:45 Saturday night on a report that two women had left the restaurant without paying for their meals.
Authorities were able to trace their license plate number to an apartment complex in Austin.
A police officer went to the complex, and while the officer was there, the suspect vehicle pulled in.
The woman denied having eaten at Applebee’s until the officer pointed out that an 8-year-old in the car was holding an Applebee’s take-home container.
The officer then asked if the woman had paid for her meal. At first she said "yes”, then changed her story and said she’d go back to the restaurant and pay her tab.
But while the woman was talking to the officer she reportedly started to drive away and ignored orders to stop.
The officer was forced to run alongside the car pull open the driver’s door and reach into the vehicle to turn off the ignition.
The woman is expected to be charged with drunk driving, fleeing in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, driving after revocation, child endangerment and other charges.
Police were unable to locate the second woman suspected in the dine-and-dash.
