Future of New Silica Sand Mines in Minnesota Unknown

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - State senators are leaning toward halting new silica sand mines while Minnesota studies the health and environmental effects of the industry.

A Senate committee passed a bill yesterday that includes a one-year moratorium on new mine permits.

It also calls for creation of a regional board to regulate mining.
