Extended Valentine's Day Celebrations
(ABC 6 News) -- Valentine’s Day has come and gone, but not all are ready to stop celebrating. Many are still heading out for dinner Saturday night and even picking up last minute flowers.
For centuries, the date February 14, has come with flowers, candy, and professions of love. But who says the celebrating has to be done just that one day?
"We wish there were more Valentine's days in the year.,” said Charles Pappas, the owner of Michael’s in Rochester.
Call it celebration overflow. At Michael’s, you only have to look at the reservation list to see that they’ll be busy again Saturday night and a special Valentine’s Day insert is still inside the menu for those who didn’t make it out Thursday.
"If it's like this week, falls on Thursday. We were very busy last night and we'll be very busy tonight. All that is part of follow through with people with Valentine's on their mind and not wanting to go out for whatever reason Thursday,” said Pappas.
Bob and Cindy Dentz are celebrating their 19th Valentine’s day together a few days late.
"Gives us an excuse to get out of the house,” joked Bob Dentz.
“I mean it's a special day. I think it's important to recognize it,” added Cindy Dentz.
Restaurants aren’t the only businesses seeing an extended crowd. Florists at Carousel Flowers were still busy putting together bouquets Saturday afternoon.
"Surprised us because yesterday, the day after we were still very busy and still today,” said Jack Hawkins, the owner of Carousel Flowers.
But whether those flowers were picked up Thursday, Friday, or Saturday.
"Schedules are busy with people. So sometimes it doesn't have to be the exact day, but as long as it's remembered that is the important thing,” said Hawkins.
