Brazen Thief Caught on Camera Stealing Catalytic Converter
(ABC 6 News) -- Olmsted County Authorities are calling it a very brazen theft stealing from a school parking lot in broad daylight.
Police are hoping technology will help solve this crime. Authorities tell ABC 6 Stewartville High School had a camera in the parking lot that captured the theft as it happened.
It happened at around 10 a.m. Thursday morning in Stewartville. Based on the surveillance video the person knew what he was doing.
He approached a vehicle and in a short time was able to cut off and walk away with the catalytic converter.
"I do think that the person had a specific vehicle type that he knew or was familiar with so he could easily remove the catalytic converter," says Sergeant Tom Claymon with the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.
Claymon says there will likely be an upsurge in catalytic converter thefts because of the opportunity and because we all have them in our cars. He also says because of the value of scrapping, they are seeing more cases like this.
If you have any information on this person you are urged to contact olmsted county sheriffs office.
