Historic Williams House Torn Down

(ABC 6 News) - A historic home in Rochester saw its last day Tuesday.  Demolition off the Williams House on 5th Street SW started Tuesday morning.

The 144-year-old home has been in the middle of a zoning dispute. The owner plans to redevelop the land to build a housing complex.

The plan has been controversial to some in the area, who wanted to instead preserve the historical landmark.

The Williams house was built by a civil war colonel and Rochester mayor. Those against the demolition are still hoping to put an ordinance in place to protect other historic buildings.
