2 Suspects Dead, Officer Wounded In St. Paul

nullST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - St. Paul police have killed two suspects in separate shootings which also left an officer wounded.
 
The latest shooting happened Tuesday night as police investigated a residential theft on the city's East Side. Two officers believed they saw the suspect in a parking lot behind Hope Community Academy about 11:30 p.m.
 
At a briefing early Wednesday, Police Chief Thomas Smith said the suspect opened fire as the officers drove into the lot, hitting their squad and one of the officers. Smith says the officers returned fire and struck suspect, who died at the scene. The chief says the officer is in stable condition and is expected to undergo surgery Wednesday.
 
The St. Paul Pioneer Press says in the other incident Tuesday, police fatally shot a man who had been wanted for questioning in a drug investigation.
