Conflicting Images Emerge of NY Terror Suspect

NEW YORK (AP) - Conflicting images have emerged of a Bangladesh native who was arrested in an FBI sting this week on charges of trying to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank in New York with what he thought was a 1,000-pound car bomb.

Friends say 21-year-old Quazi Nafis often remarked that true Muslims don't believe in violence. And his parents say he came to America to study, not carry out an attack. But federal officials say Nafis was bent on jihad and was willing to become a martyr for the cause.

Nafis, who at the time of his arrest Wednesday was working as a busboy at a restaurant in Manhattan, has been jailed without bail. His attorney has not commented on the case.

Bangladesh says its diplomats will meet with State Department officials about the case tomorrow in Washington.
