Cash Edge for Group Fighting Gay Marriage Ban

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The largest group working against a gay marriage ban in Minnesota has a cash advantage as the November election nears.

In campaign reports filed Wednesday, pro-gay marriage group Minnesota United for all Families reported about $751,000 in cash on hand.

Minnesota for Marriage, which favors the constitutional ban, has almost $484,000 in cash.

Minnesota United reported raising about $2.56 million since the last report in July. The group touted more than 25,000 individual donors.

Minnesota for Marriage brought in about $560,000. A large share of the group's money has come from the Minnesota Catholic Conference, which this year has chipped in about $600,000 in support of the gay marriage ban.
