Austin Man Arrested For Stalking
(ABC 6 News) -- Police say it's the kind of case that has an explosive potential.
A 35-year-old Austin man facing stalking charges, and police say they caught him in the act.
For four days, detectives from the Austin Police Department did surveillance on Chad Johnson.
"Chad Johnson was arrested Friday afternoon for felony stalking and violating a harassment restraining order," Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger explained.
The target of the alleged stalking was a 34-year-old woman.
"The victim in the case is I believe the same victim from a prior case I believe he's on probation for. He'd been under surveillance from September 18th until September 21st when he was arrested," Krueger told ABC6.
The arrest came Friday outside a home where the woman had gone to visit a friend.
"He had sets of binoculars as well as a spotting scope and he also had a rifle in his vehicle,” said Krueger."
The potential or possibility of a terrible outcome was extremely high and just the amount of effort and work the detectives put into this case was tremendous.”
Chad Johnson was charged Monday afternoon with two felony and five gross misdemeanor counts of stalking, including one count of stalking while in possession of a dangerous weapon.
He remains in custody in the Mower County Jail.
