Meteorologist Jim Peterson joined ABC 6 News in October 2011.
Jim is a Minnesota native through and through. He grew up in Fridley. His love of weather began at the young age of three when a tornado struck a nearby nature center. From that day on he remembers countless times when he would watch for storm clouds with his father.
Jim is a graduate of St. Cloud State University with a B.S. Degree in Atmospheric Sciences. After college, he interned at ABC 6's sister station, KSTP-TV in the Twin Cities. Not long after that, Jim got his first on air job as the Weekend Meteorologist at KEVN-TV in Rapid City, South Dakota.
When he's not forecasting, Jim enjoys spending time with his wife (and high school sweetheart), as well as the rest of his family and friends. Jim is also an avid fan of camping, fishing, boating, biking, and anything else that has to do with the outdoors. He is also a big hockey and baseball fan, cheering on the Wild, Huskies, and Twins.
You can catch Jim's forecast every Saturdays at 6:00 & 10:00pm and Sundays at 5:30 & 10:00pm.
