James Wilcox is an evening anchor at ABC 6 News. He’s been at the station since 2009.
James grew up in Brownsdale, graduated from Hayfield High School, and received a degree in Mass Communications from St. Cloud State University. Prior to ABC 6 News, James worked at television stations in New York and Nebraska.
James says, “I love my job and love telling stories that have an impact. News isn’t always good, so whenever possible I push for stories that bring something positive or spur change.”
An award-winning journalist, James has been honored by the Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists, the Minnesota Associated Press, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences with a regional Emmy nomination for his investigative report looking into the growing number of homeless youth in Rochester. He’s also been recognized by the Associated Press in Both New York and Nebraska.
Besides anchoring and reporting at ABC 6 News, James also manages content for the station’s social media pages. He’s helped grow the ABC 6 News Facebook page to the most followed television station Facebook page in the market and one of the most engaged pages, per capita, in the nation. Wilcox’s Facebook page is also one of the most followed pages of any news personality in Southern Minnesota or Northern Iowa.
