According to the Mankato Police Department, the boy, identified as Ryu Pena, apparently got the hooded sweatshirt he was wearing caught on a hook attached to a wall.

Emergency responders took the boy to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"This is a tragic event that has affected his family and our community," Mankato Public Safety Commander Jeremy Clifton said.

"It really tugs at those heartstrings."

Authorities said the boy was with his grandmother Julia Gonzalez.

A worker found Ryu hanging from the hook unconscious. Emergency responders performed CPR, but Ryu passed away.

"We don't suspect any foul play," Clifton said. "We don't see that any other circumstance other than that led up to his death."
