Michelle Patrick, the widow of Mendota Heights Officer Scott Patrick, held a news conference at the intersection of Dodd Road and Smith Avenue in West St. Paul on Friday night.
Michelle was joined by her two daughters, Erin and Amy, along with other family members.
The site was the location of her husband's fatal shooting on Wednesday, and a memorial site has popped up in the area to honor Scott Patrick.
"I want to express my deep, heartfelt gratitude for the many, many thoughts, condolences, prayers, well wishes, and kindness offered on our behalf," Michelle Patrick said.
"I chose to offer my thanks right here, near this completely spontaneous display at this profoundly senseless tragic location," she said. "It symbolizes a greater depth of feeling and love that overwhelms us and moves us, which cannot really, adequately, describe how this feels and what it means to me."
Speaking through tears, she told the crowd that the public's support gave her family hope that one day they will "climb out of this deep grief" they feel.
Scott's brother, Mike Brue, was also present and answered questions. KSTP spoke with him earlier on Friday.
"He's a friend, a confidant, as well as a younger brother," Brue said.
The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, located at 1575 Charlton St. in West St. Paul. A visitation will be held at the church from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5.
