(ABC 6 News) - Both state and local officials gathered in Winona Friday morning, for the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Winona Bridge Project.
A new bridge will be built to the north of the existing bridge, which connects Winona to Wisconsin, and then crews will rehabilitate the existing bridge. When its done, there will be four lanes of traffic crossing the bridge on Highway 43 over the Mississippi River.
The project is expected to cost $162 million.
Weather permitting, construction on the Winona Bridge project will begin next week.
The prime contractor for the project is Ames Construction.
