(ABC 6 News) -- The Consumer News and Business Channel named their "America's Top States for Business" list last week and Minnesota ranks in 6th place.
We talked to local experts and they're not surprised, especially for Rochester, which they say is seeing its best and busiest years yet.
There are businesses cropping up left and right. Come this fall, River Bend, a new senior living center will be up and running. This Monday, a new restaurant, Cowboy Jacks, opened up. Over at Limb Lab in downtown Rochester, a prosthetics manufacturer, things are looking good for its first week.
"Our experience of starting a business in Rochester has been very exciting," said founder Brandon Sampson.
It's an exciting time for Minnesota and Rochester is right there with it.
"Twenty businesses formed in the last year or so that weren't here a year ago," said Gary Smith from Rochester's Area of Economic Development Inc.
Rochester's Chamber of Commerce has hardly had this many businesses register as members.
"I will admit, this has probably been one of the busiest years that I've ever experienced," said Judy Braatz, Membership Development Director from Rochester's Chamber of Commerce.
So in the larger picture of things, there are 31,000 new businesses in the state since the start of 2014. The overall total is over 400 more than the total at this time of last year.
"When you look at how many new business formations there are, how many new businesses that are registering at the state levels," said Smith.
When it comes to the Twin Cities and Rochester, health care is one of the largest employers.
"More people are going to be moving here, so it's a great time to start a business and open a business here in Rochester," said Braatz.
"It's nice to be a part of a destination community like this," said Sampson.
Last year, officials reported over 58,000 new business filings, the third highest annual on record.
This year, things are on track for an impressive annual total as well.
