Pending approval by the Federal Department of Transportation, Mason City air travelers may soon see a new carrier serving the region.

Airport Manager Pam Osgood tells ABC 6 News that Air Choice One was the unanimous choice by the Airport Commission in a vote taken at it's meeting Monday.

That recommendation now goes to the DOT for final approval which should happen in the next few weeks according to Osgood.

If approved, Air Choice One will make 24 round trip flights from Mason City to Chicago O'Hara Airport using 9 passenger Cessna Grand Caravan planes.

Mason City had been without a commercial air carrier since February when Great Lakes Airlines discontinued their service.

Air Choice One picked for the new commercial carrier to fly out of Mason City
