(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Twin Cities based Hubbard Broadcasting announced today that ABC 6 News/KAAL TV is moving to a new Rochester studio, tripling the size of its present space on Superior Drive.

The new Rochester facility will be in the TJ Maxx Plaza, 1300 16th St SW.   It will increase the ABC 6 News footprint to over 9500 square feet.   The facility will house a much expanded studio and bring the local news operation more under one roof, along with nearly $1 million in improvements including state of the art High Definition.   The operation is currently split between Rochester and Austin studios.  Over 45 staffers will work out of the new location.   ABC 6 News will also maintain its current ABC 6 News office and studio in Austin.

Hubbard Broadcasting is a family name in Minnesota and owns TV and radio stations across the US in such cities as Duluth, Minneapolis/St Paul, Chicago, Albany, Washington DC, Seattle, Phoenix, Cincinnati, St Louis and Albuquerque.    David Harbert, ABC 6 VP/GM said, “Southern Minnesota is a very exciting place to be right now and we are grateful and energized to be a part of it.   It is always all about our local viewers, keeping them informed and connected to our community.   We enthusiastically look forward to serving them in these times when so many local media are pulling back.   ABC 6 News and Rochester stepped in front of some very strong Hubbard stations with this huge commitment to local news coverage throughout southern Minnesota.”

ABC 6 News has been steadily expanding over the last six years, gathering resources and dedicated, talented people.   This is the next step.   "We know this is a huge undertaking but look forward to the challenge and the viewer benefits it will produce.   This shows the Hubbard family's commitment to serving southern Minnesota," says David Springer, ABC 6 News Director.  The TV station added 5pm and 5am newscasts not long ago and plans to launch a new weekday newscast in 2015, made possible with the new facilities and equipment.    Viewers are responding favorably to the strong ABC 6 News focus on local communities and news coverage.   The KAALTV.COM website averages almost one million users every month and Facebook “likes” recently topped 50,000.

The new facility is expected to go on line early in 2015.   Sperides Reiners are the project architects.   Kraus-Anderson is the contractor.
