(ABC 6 News) -- They've now got one in the books. Thursday was the last day of school for Lourdes High School students, wrapping up their first year in the new state-of-the-art building.

It was a quiet day at Lourdes High School with students studying up for their final exams of the year, but there's another big milestone marking this final school day. “It’s been a wonderful year, a wonderful first year in a new school," said teacher Mary Kelsey.

"As you can see when you walk in, it's beautiful, state-of-the-art all over the place, from the gym, to the auditorium, to the classrooms, the technology, it's been absolutely wonderful," said teacher Karinn Brown.

That's been the common response. That students and staff couldn’t have asked for a better learning environment. “It was like, I'm going to college almost because it's such a big school, it's brand new, it's just a big change from what we used to have," said junior Annabelle Paulik.

"It was nice. All of the new stuff and opportunities and facilities, it’s been amazing so far," said sophomore Andrew Kowal.

"We have so much technology! The students are bringing their technology, and I have a smart board, and I’ve just been able to try all these new things that are part of the 21st century," said Kelsey.

The only complaint we heard, if you can even call it that, was getting used to the big space. "You kind of had to find the best route to each place but other than that, it was fine, and everyone was kind of together in it because we're all new," said junior Grace Bandel.

However, now students and staff say they’re well-adjusted and are excited for more years to come. "It's remarkable to walk up here every day and know that we get to work here," said Brown.

"You know a lot of people worked hard to make this and to donate all their hard earned money so it's amazing to know the community is behind us and we can make use of all this space," said Bandel.
