(ABC 6 News) -- It's been a busy weekend for area parks and camp grounds, people are getting outdoors for unofficial kickoff of summer.
Weather cooperated for outdoor plans this weekend. Foster Arend Park in Rochester opened in time for families and those from out of state to enjoy the outdoors. We came across a group of friends and family and here's what they have to say, "It's time to hit the playground or the beach."
The end of Minnesota's brutal winter in recent memory is felt this week. "This winter was cooler and lasted longer than two years ago so we're getting antsy." Shirley Bailey felt that way, too.
McKenzie runs with her hair gliding through the wind with her friends, she's all smiles, "Minnesota has crazy weather. It's great to have a warm summer time."
And being outside wasn't something she can do before this sunny day. She's here with friends who are part of a Mayo Clinic Rehabilitation Program for those with conditions in chronic pain.
Her daughter wasn't able to do some of the activities she was able to do until today and many kids who have the same conditions have been kept indoors.
Today, we have hope. For many Rochester residents, this weekend marks a new chapter.
