(ABC 6 NEWS) -- "I wanted to take after my mom, so she was my motivation at the start, and then I just fell in love with the game," Stewartville pitcher Caitlyn Hughes said.
"She's been pitching since about ten-years-old. (Her) mom was a pitcher - she pitched in college - so it was kind of a natural progression," her dad and coach Curt Hughes said.
Now, as a junior, Hughes is putting it all together.
A strikeout-to-walk ratio this season of 97-6, and an ERA under half a run.
"I can only ask so much of her, as a coach. And as a dad, probably ask a little bit less, just because you like to separate the two," Curt Hughes said.
Back in April, Hughes tossed back-to-back perfect games against Goodhue and Pine Island.
"The first one, I had no idea it was happening," Curt Hughes said. "The second one, I had a little inkling it was going on. There was some muttering in the dugout. Everybody said, 'Shhh, don't jinx it,' so you don't want to say anything."
"I don't really think about it much," Caitlyn said. "Because I know I have a defense behind me, backing me up. I have all the trust in my defense, and I have a good catcher."
Caitlyn says she'd like to play at the next level, where she hopes to get teammates like the friends she has now.
"I just love playing with them," Caitlyn Hughes said. "It's a great team bonding thing, and we just have fun together."
