(ABC 6 News) --  It's taken years of planning, but today the Stewartville Fire Station officially opened to the public.

Their version of a ribbon-cutting ceremony was disconnecting two fire hoses.

This new facility sits right where the old one did.

The fire department has been working toward a new building since 2007. Last spring, the community voted in favor of the nearly $2 million dollar station.

The Stewartville Fire Department says that this will help them provide a top quality service and that it shows how the community appreciates their service.

The Fire Chief also tells us that they plan to replace an old fire truck.
