Metro Transit confirms it is investigating an employee who is accused of gaining access to private information on Minnesotans.

Transit officials say the worker allegedly gained access to private data on a website operated by the Department of Public Safety.

Sources tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the dispatcher looked up names and photos on driver's license data more than 7,000 times. Metro Transit would not tell us who is conducting the investigation, if the employee had been disciplined or if he was still on the job.

We asked Metro Transit for an on-camera interview, but the agency declined.

In a written statement, Metro Transit tells us, in part, it "takes accusations of unauthorized data very seriously. Metro Transit is aware that an allegation has been made that an employee accessed data from the DPS website. Metro Transit has no public data that it can provide you that is responsive to your request."
