(ABC 6 News) -- Congressman Tim Walz spent part of the day in Stewartville. He was there to talk about jobs for military veterans.
"I work with computers. Fixing networks, fixing computers," said Stephen Jezeski. Stephen is a Marine, and and employee at Halcon in Stewartville. Halcon is a company that designs and manufactures office furniture.
"Even when I was younger too, there was always people that were veterans who were here. That was cool. It was a great experience for me to talk to them before I joined too," said Jezeski.
Stephen isn't the only veteran who works at Halcon. On Wednesday, Congressman Tim Walz was at the company to thank them for that.
"This is a company that goes out of their way and makes a commitment to hiring veterans," said Congressman Walz.
Congressman Walz met with the owners of the business, toured the company, and then met with the veterans who work there.
"I'm grateful to all of you. Thank you for your service," said Congressman Walz.
Right now, there are about 15 of halcon's 250 employees that are veterans. That's something that, the congressman says, is important.
"The best thing we can do is make sure we're here for them, getting them jobs, getting them in to folks here like halcon, makign sure that connection's there. So I think it's critically important, like so many citizens across southern Minnesota, we want to make sure we're doing whatever we can to take care of our veterans," said Congressman Walz.
And for veterans like Stephen, that's reassuring to hear.
"It's good. Depending on your job, it can be hard to get a job out in the civilian world,' said Stephen.
Last week, a representative from halcon flew to Washington D.C and took part in a roundtable discussing with the congressional veterans jobs caucus.
