In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb

“March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb” is a phrase I’ve heard all of my life and was certainly the case for our March in Minnesota & Iowa.

Just to give you a reminder, March started very cold with sub-zero low temperatures for the first three days.

Now we are ending the month with two back-to-back days in the upper 50s and lower 60s, the warmest since the end of October, 2013.

After a wet January and February, March was actually fairly dry. As of Sunday, only 6.2” of snow has fallen, about 2.5” below-average.

March did see our largest snow depth of the season at 25” on March 5th.

With a gradual warm-up in the middle of the month that snow depth is now down to a trace.

A common April phrase is “April showers bring May flowers”, but will that be true for April, 2014? Well, it does look like we start the month off with a few showers, but some of those will stay snow showers instead of rain showers. Two storms are moving our way for the middle of the week, the first Wednesday into Thursday and the second Thursday into Friday. Both are fairly disorganized at this point so amounts, timing, precipitation type are all still unknown, but your Storm Tracker 6 Weather Team will be tracking things closely.
