(ABC 6 NEWS) -- "We can't function without what Paige does for us," NRHEG head coach John Schultz said.

Many head coaches in several sports have said, 'Do your job.'

Paige Overgaard knows hers.

"The two defenses we run, we need the middle to be anchored and make sure the ball does not get there. Anytime you play any zone, you can't allow the ball in the middle, and that's her job," Schultz said.

"I just feel like that's what I have to do. I have to do that for my team to win and be successful, so I like it and I'm glad I've got that role," Overgaard said.

"She's our second-leading rebounder and leading defender, and she's led by example for a long time," Schultz said.

Last week, in the south final of Section 2AA, Overgaard stepped up on offense as her teammates were struggling.

She finished with 12 points, nine rebounds and five blocks.

"Having an off night, I have to put myself in there and do whatever I can to score," Overgaard said.

"Without her doing that, we might have been done that night," Schultz said. "Everyone has their night to carry us, and if things get ugly and shots aren't falling, kids like that are what drag you through."

Overgaard has some offers to play college ball, but she told me that she'll wait until after the state tournament to make her decision.

"It's going to be a stressful week, so I'm going to focus on (the state tournament) and not worry about that for now," Overgaard said.
