Packers beat Alexandria, advance to semis

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Zach Wessels scored 23 points and Ajuda Nywesh added 15, as the Austin Packers beat Alexandria 61-50 in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A state tournament Wednesday.

The Packers defense was the biggest star, holding the Cardinals to just 30 percent shooting.

Austin led by as much as 15 in the second half, and hit several free throws late to ice it.

The Packers play the winner of Cloquet/Holy Family Catholic in the semifinals on Thursday at 2 p.m.
