(ABC 6 News) -- A bill aimed at giving veterans the day off work for Veterans Day cleared a state House committee today.
Supporters of the bill say our veterans have earned it. The bill would require employers to allow veterans time off each November 11th. Just as long as they request the day off at least a month in advance.
Of course this is good news for veterans, but those we talked with today say the celebration is also about family.
"Guys who are retired would like to see their kids and grandkids have that day off just as they would presidents day or memorial day,” said Nathan Pike with Olmsted County Veterans Services.
The bill lets employers decide if the time off is paid or not. Some lawmakers see trouble with it creating problems for employers.
