(ABC 6 NEWS) -- "I remember a year ago, when our coaches retired, and we all thought, 'Wow, we're never going to state again.'" Austin senior dance captain Madi Wuertz said.
"Change is never easy for anyone, so it was really difficult, but I think we had the right group of girls to go through it with."senior captain Erin Dankert said.
Last May, the Austin Packer Dance Team needed a new coach, so they brought back one of their own.
"It's really cool," head coach Kayla Sellers said. "I never actually thought it would happen, but I always wanted to coach, and I thought it would be great to coach at Austin."
Sellers and assistant coach Sara Alms are both Austin graduates, so they know the history of the Dance Team's success.
"There was a lot of pressure to get back to state, but it's been good," senior captain Hannah Bergstrom said.
"There's also been a lot of positive changes, and we've been able to try new things that we didn't know we were capable of before," Wuertz said.
This past weekend though, the Packers told ABC 6 they didn't perform their best at sections, so they were a little on edge.
"The announcer said, 'In third place, Austin,' and your heart just stops, because we're going back (to state) for the 12th year in a row," Bergstrom said.
"Sections wasn't our best performance, but we're happy that we get to go back, and we have a lot to prove on Saturday," senior captain Kendra Miller said.
"It's nice to know that we still have what we've had every other year. We're still just as good," senior captain Tori Simonson said.
"We always aim for the highest goals, but we're taking one step at a time, so right now, it's just to put our best performance on for state prelims," Sellers said.
