(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Long-time John Marshall football coach Jack Drews announced his retirement Tuesday.

Drews has been the Rockets head coach for the past 17 years, and complied a 106-65 record during his tenure.

"Anytime you get to work with kids, get them to mature and become adults and learn from a sport, that's what it is all about," Drews said in a press release.

Drews' Rockets were Big 9 champions three times, and made it to the state tournament four times.

While he'll be leaving the sidelines, he'll remain teaching social studies.
