(ABC 6 NEWS) -- There's been a shake-up within the Dodge County Sheriff's Office.

ABC 6 News first reported on Monday that Chief Deputy Mike Leonhardt was fired.

Sheriff Jim Jensen told ABC 6 the Chief Deputy is an "at will" position appointed by the sheriff, and that it can be eliminated at any time.

When asked why, Jensen said Leonhardt was not being a loyal chief deputy.  Although he could not get into additional details, the Sheriff confirmed Leonhardt was no longer with the department.

Leonhardt has been with the department for 26 years.

A petition for his reinstatement has been created by a county employee.

Tuesday afternoon, ABC 6 spoke with officials with Dodge County, who said that following a meeting with their personnel attorney, they could not speak on the matter citing Minnesota's Data Practices Act.
