(ABC 6 NEWS) -- A 48-year-old man is in jail, awaiting charges that he robbed an Austin bank.
Investigators say the man walked into the Wells Fargo Bank on North Main Street in Austin shortly before two o’clock Saturday afternoon, handed a dollar bill to a teller and asked to exchange it for a gold coin.
The teller stepped away from the counter, but when he returned the suspect reportedly handed him a note demanding a hundred dollar bill.
The clerk later told police he wasn’t sure if the suspect was serious, but the man reportedly said “Just give me what’s on the note, don’t tell anybody and give me five minutes.”
The teller handed over a hundred dollar bill, and the man left the bank.
About an hour later police located a man matching the description of the suspect, and employees of the bank positively identified him as the man who’d robbed the bank. His name is Scott Olson.
Investigators back-tracked the Olson’s movement, and learned that he had used the hundred dollar bill to buy a package of cigarettes at a convenience store near Austin high school.
No weapon was involved.
Olson is in jail pending formal charges.
