(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The Salvation Army red kettle campaign has raised about half of their goal so far in Olmsted County. We told you yesterday that all donations given today or tomorrow will triple. The Salvation Army is looking to maximize donations in every way possible.
Some call it a staple of the holiday season. The sound of ringing bells often coincides with giving, "Great way to express what Christmas spirit is all about,” said Beverly Parker of Rochester.
Donations are down this year when it comes to red kettles in Olmsted County. Which means they need a big push down the final stretch. Every donation is tripled by donors today and Saturday.
"It's just fantastic there's an option to give money in an amplified way,” said Parker.
"I’ve walked past the Salvation Army red kettle almost every day at lunch for the last couple weeks and today I saw that donations were tripled,” said Grant Hamilton. For Grant, procrastination pays off.
Today donations were accepted with a swipe of your credit card.
“I rarely have cash, so that makes it pretty hard for me to spontaneously donation to something like this,” said Hamilton.
Credit cards were only taken at certain locations, but Salvation Army officials say it's just another way to maximize every donation. Which is crucial because soon the ringing bells will end for the season.
"We're nearing the days till Christmas, so I tell people to get out and just exercise your right to express yourself and your gratitude,” said Parker.
The triple match is a great reason to triple up your hours at the kettle. If you've done it once or twice, why not donate your time one more time. The Salvation Army is really in need of bell ringers on Monday and Christmas Eve. To sign up, click on featured links on our website.
