(ABC 6 News) -- For 12 years now, Korean War Veteran Wayne Uptagrafft has been donating to the Dorothy Day House in Rochester for Christmas.
Thursday, he dropped off boxes of food and clothes for the homeless veterans and others residing there. He says he asked all his friends in the Korean Veterans Club to donate, and he rounded up more than $200 for these items.
Uptagrafft says he knows what its like to have very little around the holidays.
"When I was in Korea, I remember December of 1952 where it was cold and very cold like it is here now, and all we had was a few cans of bean and pork and some biscuits to eat at Christmas time and I never wanted anybody to go through that again," he said.
Hy-Vee, Gentlings Dental, Hunt's Drug Store and other businesses also helped pitch in.
