Juice Nutrition: Telling 100% of the Story

Few Americans eat the recommended amounts of fruit each day.  In fact, 80% of Americans are falling short of their goal.  Can juice be a part of the solution?  Hy-Vee Dietitian, Jen Haugen, highlights how to make nutrient-rich choices in the juice aisle of the supermarket to help you meet your goal.

The 100% Juice Difference

  • According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the majority of fruit recommended should come from whole fruits, but when juices are consumed, 100% juice should be encouraged.
  • Any fruit or 100% fruit juice counts as part of the fruit group.
  • A serving of 100% fruit juice is 4 ounces and can be included as part of a healthy diet.

Why choose 100% Juice?

  • A four-ounce serving of 100% orange juice provides a half-cup of fruit and contains fewer than 60 calories along vitamin C, folate and potassium.  It’s naturally nutrient-dense.
  • Research finds that those who consume 100% orange juice tend to have higher intakes of fruit as well as fiber.
  • 100% juice contains no added sugars.
