Rates Increasing for Austin Utilities

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- Customers of Austin Utilities will see bigger bills starting January 1st.

The utility board has approved a nearly 5% increase for electric. Water rates will go up almost 7%. That equals out to about $6.30 each month.

The board says increases are the result of higher operating costs and recent maintenance.

As we've previously reported, Rochester utilities may also be raised. RPU proposed a 3% increase for electricity and a 1.5% increase for water.

Rochester City Council will vote on that Monday.
