Sparingly used Patterson's role could increase

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - Cordarrelle Patterson could be on the verge of more playing time with the Minnesota Vikings.

The first-round draft pick has made an impact on special teams, with two kickoff returns for scores. His use at wide receiver been limited on offense, though. In the last game, he had his first career touchdown catch, and the Vikings have been talking about getting him more involved.

Patterson was the third wide receiver taken in the draft this year, behind Tavon Austin of St. Louis and DeAndre Hopkins of Houston. But Patterson ranks 15th among rookies at his position in playing time, according to STATS research. Patterson has taken only 26.4 percent of the snaps for Minnesota.
