(ABC 6 News) -- Dozens gathered today at Assembly of God Church for a Veterans Day event in Rochester.
Besides patriotic music and performances, they shared the true meaning, and history behind this day.
Did you know? President Wilson proclaimed November 11th as Armistice Day, honoring those who died in WWI. A few decades later, President Eisenhower issued the first Veteran's Day Proclamation. There's much more to it than that, but veterans say it makes them happy the history if still being shared.
"I just think we should carry it on for the younger generation to understand why we have veterans day, because it's kind of relaxed a little bit, and it wont be long our days will be over," Korean War veteran Les Griebenow said.
The head of the Iowa National Guard was also at this event.
