Dayton to Discuss Minnesota Student Test Scores

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Gov. Mark Dayton is making his first public appearance after a recent medical procedure to discuss the performance of Minnesota students on national tests.
Dayton and his education commissioner are holding a press conference Thursday morning at the Capitol. They'll present details of test scores being released by the National Assessment of Educational Progress, otherwise known as the Nation's Report Card.
The administration is suggesting that the scores will show progress in reducing what's commonly known as the achievement gap. That's the split in test scores between white and non-white students, and Minnesota's has traditionally been one of the worst in the nation.
Dayton underwent a procedure two weeks ago at Mayo Clinic to help relieve pain in his hip. He spent the time since working from his residence.
