Organ Donors Increasing
(ABC 6 NEWS) -- In the past three years, the number of organ donors has increased 13% in Minnesota. That's well above the national average, but the need for organs is great.
There are more than 2 point 6 million organ donors in Minnesota or 63 percent of the state. The nation average is 45 percent. Right now in Minnesota more than 3,100 people are waiting for an organ donation.
The push to get more donors continues. The Department of Public Safety is launching a new promotional video encouraging people to become a donor. It's thanks to contributions to the "You and Two" program. It allows you to donate two dollars when applying for or renewing a driver's license. It's raised more than $100,000 in the past year.
DPS Commissioner Mona Dohman says, "Minnesotans are generous and they're caring so it is no surprise that 63% are organ and tissue donors."
If you haven't registered, but would like to, there are several different ways to do it. You can indicate it on your driver's license, tell a family member, or post it on your Facebook profile.
