(ABC 6 NEWS) -- "I started as a swimmer, and I watched (the divers) practice, and it just seemed more entertaining, so I tried it and I've loved it ever since," Austin senior diver Autumn Laury said.
It's pretty amazing what Laury's been able to do off the diving board, especially considering she injured her back in eighth grade.
"I think it was one of the first few weeks that I hurt it, and it's just been injured ever since, but it's especially bad this year," Laury said.
Given that ongoing issue, her track record - which includes a third place finish at state last year - is all the more impressive.
"She is really dedicated to her sport. She pushes herself like winners do," Austin diving coach Eliza Kelly said.
Yesterday, Laury picked up yet another first place finish in the meet against Winona.
"I've had a lot of ups and downs. It's kind of been bipolar with the meets, but when I do well, I do well, and I'm proud of that," Laury said.
"Even with injuries, she's always up on the board and always pushing herself to do better," Kelly said.
