Volunteers Transform Playground at St. Paul School in 1 Day
One organization is teaming up with a St. Paul school to make sure all kids have the opportunity to play on a playground right in their own neighborhood.
KaBOOM! is a national nonprofit that wants every kid in America to have a place to play within walking distance.
On Saturday morning, there was a groundbreaking held for a playground that 200 volunteers planned to build in just one day at The Heights Community School in St. Paul
The school of more than 600 students does not have a suitable playground. Principal Jayne Ropella said, “Only one class fit on it at a time, and it was for the little kids. And we have this huge beautiful field here.”
Ropella said they received a grant for $85,000 from KaBOOM! to fund the playground.
The nationwide effort is drawing a lot of attention; one man drove all the way up from Chicago to help.
The equipment is expected be ready for kids on Tuesday.
