(ABC 6 News) -- Every Wednesday during the school year ABC 6 News honors area educators making a difference in the lives of students with Excellent Educator awards.

This week, we kick off the year honoring Bradley Mariska from Austin High School.

"My motto is band is life," says Mariska.

It's his spirit and his passion for music that comes through, in every lesson, and in every pep band.

"I just love getting up every morning and I love coming to school and for me to have the opportunity to do something i'm passionate about is not only my job, but is my hobby, and its my love of life," he says.

Mariska is only in his second year teaching band at Austin High School, but already he has made a lasting impression with his students.

"It's something that was one of my favorite things to do when I was in highschool."

"The things we learn in band rehearsal are things that make people successful in life, dedication to their instrument is the same skills needed to be a great executives and maybe teachers themselves," says Mariska.

And just like him, maybe one of his students will walk away with the same motto in life.
