One of Deadliest Weekends on Minnesota Roads in 2013
(ABC 6 News) -- We're coming off of one of the deadliest weekends on Minnesota roads this year.
A total of 8 people were killed on Minnesota roads this weekend -- three of them motorcycle fatalities.
According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) the weekend crashes brings the total number of deaths to 250. Thats up from 238 at this time last year.
At this rate DPS is projecting 415 deaths for the year compared to 395 deaths in 2012
One of the big factors they are seeing this year is an increase in motorcycle fatalities. Out of the three motorcycle fatalities this weekend-- one of them was hit by a suspected drunk driver.
So far this year there have been 53 motorcycle deaths, compared to 55 in all of 2012.
As we reported, 34-year-old Aaron Eckblad of Rochester died Thursday when his motorcycle crashed into a truck near T.J. Maxx. Police say the truck driver was trying to navigate through the construction cones and made a turn into the wrong lane.
Eckblad died upon arrival at the hospital.
Because that accident happened on Thursday, it was not included in the weekend numbers.
