Limes Blamed for Calif. Girls' Second-Degree Burns

An everyday piece of fruit is being blamed for causing severe burns on five young girls in California.
It started with a lemonade stand and some limes on a hot day, but the next day all five girls broke out in burns and blisters.
The diagnosis is phytophotodermatitis. The Mayo Clinic says a chemical in the lime combined with ultraviolet rays caused the reaction.
"It was my youngest one who woke up screaming and crying,” Denise Kinser said. “She just couldn't handle the pain, and there were big blisters that were growing quickly on her, all over her body."
The girls have returned to school, but unfortunately doctors aren’t sure if the scars will ever go away.
