SE Minnesota Vendors Ready for State Fair
(ABC 6 NEWS) -- It is a Minnesota tradition dating back to 1859. The State Fair, and it gets underway in just a matter of hours.
Of course there are all of the rides, attractions, and who can forget the food? But for some people, the state fair is more than just fun; it's their job.
The rides have been tested, the vendors are set up, and it's almost showtime at the Great Minnesota Get Together.
"Oh, this is definitely a highlight. I look forward to this every year," said Amy Fischer from Kasson. She has been selling her Avon products at the state fair for 17 years.
"Throughout the year, I'm always thinking ahead on what I'm gonna do new this year for the Minnesota state fair," said Fischer.
For her, the fair is a crucial part of her business.
"I rely on this so much yes. And it's not just the sales here today, it's customers throughout the year. They contact me when they need service," said Fischer.
It's not just Amy. Across the fair, you'll find Quesadilla Junction, a Rochester-based company.
"We've got steak, chicken, beef, bacon, cheese quesadillas, we have a loaded nacho called the macho nacho," said owner Oliver Regal. He's been bringing Quesadilla Junction to the state fair for ten years, and says he has no plans of stopping that any time soon.
"It is probably the premiere state fair that we do. I mean just look at all the stuff that's going on just to get ready for it. Everybody wants to be in tip top and everybody wants to be ready for opening day tomorrow," said Regal.
Because this business is his main source of income, things have to go just right.
"If it rains every day, then it hurts. Which we're not going to get," said Regal.
So while most people will be out enjoying everything the fair has to offer, these guys will be working, bringing you food and services, and just trying to make a living.
"It's busy. It's busy from morning to night," said Regal.
Opening day of the state fair is Thursday, and it runs through Labor Day.
